Behind the Scenes: Creating a COSRX AI Skincare Spec Ad
This behind-the-scenes breakdown documents the creative process behind developing a cinematic AI skincare commercial for COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. The project was created as an independent creator test for the Faschcom AI Creators Network. The brief required a 15-second vertical (9:16) commercial with an immediate 2-second hook, imaginative visuals that would be challenging or prohibitive for a traditional physical film crew, and a seamless transition into genuine product value.
The creative process began with thorough research into the COSRX brand and its cult-favorite product: Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. In beauty advertising, most commercials default to generic bathroom vanity shots and predictable serum droplets. However, the product's distinctive identity is rooted in snail mucin—a natural ingredient celebrated for intense hydration and skin barrier repair. The creative opportunity was to lean into that unexpected ingredient and create a visual metaphor that sparks instant curiosity while respecting the brand's premium skincare reputation.
To solve the 2-second hook requirement without alienating skincare buyers, I developed an imaginative opening: a tiny snail wearing miniature sunglasses basking on a warm, tropical beach. This visual provided an immediate pattern interrupt in social feeds. It asked an implicit question that stops the thumb: what does a snail on vacation have to do with premium skincare? The humor and charm created curiosity, establishing an emotional connection before transitioning smoothly into the functional benefits of the product.
To ensure the 15-to-17-second runtime maintained narrative discipline, I wrote a detailed audio-visual (AV) script using ChatGPT. In short-form video, every second is prime real estate. The AV script mapped each spoken phrase to a precise visual beat: the sunglasses hook at 0-2 seconds, the transition to skin hydration at 3-6 seconds, the product application and serum texture at 7-12 seconds, and the cinematic landscape reveal at 13-17 seconds. Scripting beforehand prevented disjointed visuals and guaranteed that generation prompts served the story.
Visual production was executed using Google Flow for both image framing and video generation. The primary technical hurdle was generating the whimsical snail character with photorealistic lighting, followed by seamless transitions into macro product shots and believable human skin textures. Multiple iterations were generated to avoid uncanny motion or inconsistent lighting. The goal was to ensure the snail felt tangibly real, while the subsequent beauty shots radiated clean, hydrated luxury.
Sound is 50% of the commercial's emotional impact. Using ElevenLabs, I tested multiple voice models to find a tone that balanced playful intrigue with calm cosmetic authority. The delivery needed to shift naturally: starting with a light, curious inflection during the beach opening, then grounding into warm, confident clarity as the narration explained the hydrating power of snail mucin. Subtle pacing adjustments were made to ensure the voiceover never felt rushed against the short visual cuts.
The final assembly took place in CapCut. Editorial pacing was built around acoustic beat markers, syncing the visual cuts to musical transitions. Rather than cutting off abruptly at the 15-second mark, I allowed the final two seconds to breathe, giving viewers time to absorb the brand logo, product bottle, and tagline. Layering subtle ambient sound design—gentle ocean breeze, soft droplet impacts, and textural risers—grounded the AI visuals in tangible acoustic weight.
